The short version
Yum Britannia is a public hygiene-rating lookup. We do not run user accounts, do not ask for your email, and do not host any forms that collect personal data. By default, the only cookies we set are the ones the site needs to remember your cookie choice.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect names, email addresses or phone numbers.
- We do not have user accounts and never ask you to sign up.
- We do not host contact forms, comment threads or review submissions.
- We do not sell, share or rent any personal data, because we do not have any.
Cookies we use
We follow a consent-first approach. Until you make a choice in the cookie bar, no analytics or advertising cookies load. The site itself only relies on a small piece of browser storage to remember your decision.
Essential storage (always on)
We store a single key in your browser’s localStorage called yb_cookie_consent_v1. It records the version of the consent schema, that essential storage is on, your analytics and advertising choices, and the timestamp at which you made them. The shape is roughly:
{
"v": 1,
"essential": true,
"analytics": false,
"advertising": false,
"ts": 1714000000000
}This record does not identify you, and it is not shared with any third party.
Analytics (off until you opt in)
If you opt in via the cookie bar, we may load Google Analytics in cookieless mode to understand which pages are useful. No analytics cookies are set unless you accept them.
Advertising (off until you opt in)
If you opt in, third-party ad networks (Google AdSense) may set cookies to personalise ads. With advertising consent withheld, no such cookies are set.
Cloudflare Web Analytics — legitimate interest
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure aggregate site performance (page loads, country-level traffic, broken links). Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookieless and does not collect personal data. It does not fingerprint visitors, does not set tracking cookies and is not used to build user profiles.
Because no personal data is collected, we run Cloudflare Web Analytics under the lawful basis of legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR): we have a genuine need to know whether the site works and where content is reaching, and the privacy impact on visitors is effectively zero. This is why no consent prompt is required for this single tool. If you would prefer it not to run, common browser privacy settings and tracker-blocking extensions block it without affecting the rest of the site.
Changing your preferences
You can change your analytics and advertising choices at any time. Open the cookie bar at the bottom of the page and choose Manage — that opens our preferences panel where you can switch each category on or off and save. Your choice is written back to the same yb_cookie_consent_v1 key. Clearing your browser storage for this site will reset your consent and the bar will reappear on your next visit.
Where the data on the site comes from
The hygiene ratings shown on Yum Britannia come from the Food Standards Agency public dataset under the Open Government Licence v3.0. They are about food businesses, not about you. See /data-source for the full attribution and refresh schedule.
Updates to this policy
If we change how cookies or analytics are handled, we will update this page and bump the date at the top. Material changes will also reset the consent bar so you can review and re-confirm your choice.
