General
Yum Britannia is an independent UK restaurant hygiene lookup. We show the Food Standards Agency's hygiene ratings for restaurants, takeaways, cafes, pubs and shops across Britain, in a format that is faster and easier to use than the official FSA site.
No. We are independent. We use FSA data under the Open Government Licence v3.0, which anyone is free to reuse. We are not endorsed by or partnered with the FSA.
Yes. The site is free for everyone, funded by advertising and affiliate links shown below the core information. We do not charge restaurants to appear, change, or remove their ratings.
Using the site
Use the search box at the top of every page. Type a restaurant name, a postcode (like SW1A 1AA), a postcode area (like SW1), or a city name. Results appear as you type.
We are currently launching in phases. In early 2026 we cover central London and expand to other UK cities through the year. If a restaurant exists in the FSA database but not on our site yet, it likely falls outside our current launch areas.
No. Yum Britannia does not publish user reviews. We only show the official FSA hygiene rating and factual information. For user reviews, try Google Maps or TripAdvisor.
Hygiene ratings explained
5 is the highest rating (“very good”). The inspector found standards of hygiene to be very good on the day of inspection. Rating 4 is good, 3 is generally satisfactory, 2 needs improvement, 1 needs major improvement, 0 means urgent improvement necessary.
We designed our own badge. A restaurant earns Yum Approved when its FSA rating is 4 or 5. The badge is our design — it is not an official FSA mark.
We show the date of the last inspection alongside the rating. In England, most places are inspected every 6-18 months depending on risk. A rating from 3+ years ago may no longer reflect current conditions.
This means the venue is registered with the FSA but has not yet had its first inspection (commonly a new opening). We show this status as-is.
Data & updates
We sync with the Food Standards Agency every night at 3am UTC. In practice, our data is never more than 24 hours behind the official FSA database.
If the rating shown here differs from the official FSA website, the official FSA data is authoritative — please refer to ratings.food.gov.uk. If our display is stale by more than 48 hours, email [email protected] and we will investigate.
We only display public data from the Food Standards Agency. Because the data is published under the Open Government Licence, any venue listed in FSA's database appears on our site unless it closes. If you believe your listing is factually wrong, email [email protected].
