Update 1 - Nestlé recalls several SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula as a precaution because of the possible presence of cereulide (toxin)
Why it was recalled
Nestlé has updated its precautionary recall of several SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula products, amending the expiry dates for affected batches of SMA Advanced Follow-On Milk and SMA ALFAMINO.
The underlying concern is unchanged: the possible presence of cereulide, a toxin from certain Bacillus cereus bacteria that survives boiling water and normal bottle preparation. If consumed it can cause rapid nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps. Affected formula should not be used even if a baby has shown no signs of illness.
