Update 1: McCormack Family Farms recalls Spinach and Mixed Leaves products because of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes
Why it was recalled
McCormack Family Farms has extended its recall of spinach and mixed leaves products after Listeria monocytogenes was found, adding further products and batches to the original alert; the new items are marked in the official product table.
Salad leaves are eaten raw, so there is no cooking step to neutralise listeria. Most healthy people who fall ill get flu-like symptoms and recover, but the infection can be serious for over-65s, pregnant women and their unborn babies, newborns and the immunocompromised.
