Sainsbury’s recalls two houmous products due to possible presence of E.coli
Why it was recalled
Sainsbury's is recalling two houmous products, JS Classic Houmous and JS Lemon & Coriander Houmous, as a precaution because they may contain Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), one of the more dangerous foodborne bacteria.
STEC infection causes diarrhoea and abdominal pain that can progress to bloody diarrhoea, and in a minority of cases to haemolytic uraemic syndrome, a serious complication that can cause kidney failure and can be fatal, with children at particular risk. Houmous is eaten cold with no kill step, so precautionary recalls are the right response.

If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.
