Why it was recalled
Island Salads is recalling its Potato and Bacon Salad products because they may contain Listeria monocytogenes. Chilled deli salads are eaten straight from the tub, giving bacteria no kill step between production and plate.
Listeriosis usually resembles flu, with high temperature, aches, chills, sickness or diarrhoea, and most healthy people recover. For over-65s, pregnant women and their unborn babies, newborns and people with weakened immune systems, infection can turn severe, including meningitis.
