Danone recalls several Aptamil and Cow & Gate First Infant Milk and Follow on Milk formula products sold in Northern Ireland because of the possible presence of cereulide (toxin)
Why it was recalled
Danone is recalling several Aptamil and Cow & Gate infant formula and follow-on milk products sold in Northern Ireland because some batches may contain cereulide, a heat-stable toxin produced by certain Bacillus cereus bacteria. The affected best-before dates differ slightly from the parallel recall covering the rest of the UK.
Cereulide survives the normal preparation of a bottle, and if consumed can cause rapid-onset nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps. With infants, who cannot describe symptoms, recalls like this are handled with maximum caution.

What this means for you
If you are in Northern Ireland and use Aptamil or Cow & Gate formula, check your tubs against this alert's specific batch list, which is not identical to the mainland list. Do not feed affected formula to your baby; return it for a full refund and use the brand carelines for guidance, especially if the formula was prescribed, in which case speak to a pharmacist before switching. Contact a health professional if your baby seems unwell. The official FSA notice carries the authoritative batches.
